One of Soley Berrios’ favorite parts of the mural created by Cesar Viveros and being painted by a small rotating army of volunteers isn’t the bright colors or the interlocked hands.
“I just love the window air conditioners,” she said, laughing. “That’s so perfect. So Camden.”
The row houses that make up so much of the city’s housing stock, of course, were built long before central air existed, and in a city of poor and working-class people, window units are common as a cheaper, easier way to cool an old house.
