Growing from the Ground Up: Community Power and the Future of Urban Greening
Panel Description: The push to make cities greener, cleaner, and more resilient is well underway, but who gets to shape that transformation matters just as much as the transformation itself. This panel brings together leaders from across the region to explore what it looks like when communities are at the center of environmental change rather than on the receiving end. From green stormwater infrastructure to urban greening initiatives, panelists will dig into the strategies, partnerships, and grassroots organizing that turn environmental goals into lasting neighborhood change and examine what it takes to ensure that the benefits reach the people who need them most.
Moderator: Olivia Carpenter-Glenn, President & CEO, Baobab Blossom Consulting, LLC

The session provides a practical overview of how urban composting works in community settings, including material collection, processing, and reintegration into local gardens, while highlighting its role in reducing waste, improving soil health, and supporting local food systems. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions, receive samples of compost products such as worm castings, and connect for future engagement.
- Session B — Air | Air Quality & Environmental Health with Rowan University’s Community Planning & Visualization Lab- A data-driven discussion on Camden’s air quality challenges led by the team behind the award-winning, EPA-funded Greening Camden initiative. Drawing on the Greening Camden Toolkit and GIS-based Greening Camden Model, this session examines how traffic emissions, industrial pollutants, and asthma rates disproportionately impact Camden neighborhoods. The session will also include a brainstorming activity with session participants to identify ways to improve air quality in Camden and clarify roles for community members and stakeholders.
