Timeline of Historical Achievements:
1984 – Cooper’s Ferry Development Association, Inc. (CFDA) was established to implement the vision for the Camden waterfront, following a 1983 planning study by the City of Camden, Campbell Soup Company, and RCA that highlighted the potential for mixed-use development.
1987 – Wiggins Waterfront Park & Marina was created with a $30 million investment, developing a 1.3-mile stretch along the Delaware River and enhancing the Camden Waterfront with recreational and green spaces.
1991 – CFDA launched RiverLink, reintroducing ferry service between Camden and Philadelphia’s Penn’s Landing for the first time in 40 years.
1995 – The Susquehanna Bank Center, now known as the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion, opened, becoming a major venue for concerts and events as part of Camden’s waterfront revitalization.
1996 – One Port Center opened, marking a significant development with its $30 million investment as the headquarters for the Delaware River Port Authority and a key part of Camden’s infrastructure enhancement.
2000 – CFDA shifted focus to Camden’s neighborhoods, creating the Neighborhood Initiatives Division to collaborate on resident-driven plans, revitalization strategies, and investment opportunities.
2001 – The Battleship New Jersey Memorial and Museum officially opened on October 15, 2001, transforming the USS New Jersey into a popular historical attraction on the Camden Waterfront.
2001 – Campbell’s Field, a 6,500-seat baseball park, opened as home to the Camden Riversharks and Rutgers University-Camden Raptors, earning accolades like “Ballpark of the Year” by Baseball America in 2004. In May 2022, the newly constructed Camden Athletic Complex opened on this site which is used by Scarlet Raptors’ baseball, soccer, track and lacrosse programs.
2005 – Adventure Aquarium, originally opened in 1992 as the New Jersey State Aquarium, reopened after significant renovations, becoming one of the region’s top tourist destinations with nearly 1 million annual visitors.
2006 – The Victor Lofts were transformed into a vibrant residential community, preserving the historic Victor Building and contributing to Camden’s urban renewal with modern, affordable housing.
2011 – CFDA and Greater Camden Partnership merged to form Cooper’s Ferry Partnership (CFP), focusing on sustainable economic and community development in Camden.
2013 – The Camden Collaborative Initiative (CCI) was launched to enhance environmental resources in Camden with support from various agencies and organizations.
2015 – The Connect the Lots initiative was launched as a pilot program in North Camden and Cooper-Grant, expanding citywide to activate parks and underutilized spaces through artistic, cultural, and recreational projects.
2019 – Camden Works was launched to streamline employment connections between employers and job-seeking residents, supporting the hiring of over 1,000 Camden residents.
2021 – Following the COVID-19 pandemic, CFDA rebranded as Camden Community Partnership (CCP) to reflect its expanded focus on community and economic development throughout Camden.
2023 – Camden Community Partnership and TransitTech provider Via launched Camden Loop, an on-demand microtransit service that has provided approximately 50,000 rides, enhancing public transportation accessibility in Camden.
2024 – Today, Camden Community Partnership continues to advance its mission to serve as a catalyst for the preservation and growth of a vibrant Camden, by facilitating high-quality urban redevelopment projects in the city. Driven by progress and focused on equity, CCP remains committed to propelling the city forward and invites others to join in their vision of creating a more equitable and thriving environment for the residents of Camden.
