Listening intently to seniors talk about post-graduation planning, U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross suddenly broke into a smile that seemed to cover most of his face.

Norcross had just heard a Camden High School student telling the class that neither college nor the military were for him. He wanted to be an electrician.

The congressman, a union electrician who worked construction before entering politics, joked later with visiting U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona that Congress has hundreds of lawyers, but only one electrician.

Cardona was in his final day of a multistate bus tour that began on Monday in Knoxville, Tennessee to showcase how schools are helping students recover and thrive in the post-pandemic environment.
