One of the stories Camden native Leon Huff likes to tell is how the famous songwriter and producer was inspired to create the 1972 hit “Me and Mrs. Jones” about an extramarital affair.

On Monday night, after being inducted along with the late Victor Carstarphen, Sr. into the Camden Walk of Fame, he did just that to a delighted crowd in Wiggins Park.

He and Kenny Gamble —co-founder of Philadelphia International Records and his songwriting partner — used to meet at a Philadelphia restaurant every day for breakfast or lunch. “I kept seeing this guy coming in with this woman,” he recalled, “and I said, Gamble, I know that guy right there, he’s from Camden!” The couple would meet in the same place, sit at the same table, play the same song on the jukebox, and leave the eatery separately.
