CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — Camden is getting a $1 million grant to transform illegal dumping sites into spaces for public art.

The grant is part of “A New View,” a project funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies, which was founded by former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

The sites are along major transit corridors. In Camden, those include the PATCO high-speed rail line, the RiverLine light rail line and the Camden Greenway trail network.

Camden Mayor Francisco Moran says illegal dumping costs the city more than $4 million per year.

The grant will be used to repurpose the sites for art installations and events.
