Wearing their purple Camden High School warm-up suits, football players showed up at their home field on Thursday not to play, but to grab paint brushes and rollers and transform a silver chain-link field perimeter fence to black.
On this special fall morning, the camaraderie was more than just the players, who have teamed up for a standout season so far with a 7-1 record.
"You're part of Team Camden, not just Camden High football," Mayor Victor Carstarphen told the players as dozens of volunteers from the community, school district, businesses and nonproits were getting ready to polish Camden High's field. Last week, they did the same for Eastside High School.
